Computer Catastrophies... ( Insert Whining Here)

Warning - Major rant to ensue...
For all the computer savy peeps out there who can relate to this, please leave a comment to let me know that I'm not the only one these things happen to.
So the hard drive is starting to go on my 4/5 year old desktop, understandable I guess. I went and bought a new hard drive, but just haven't had the time to install it.
I've backed up absolutely everything to an external hard drive, like I'm supposed to. Made a complete image of my hard drive using Acronis, yup.
In the meantime, I bought a nice shiny new 17" inch screen laptop with Vista on it and fell in love with it. I've been using it as my main computer for months now since the hard drive started to go on the desktop. Had everything I need on it, and yesterday I had it on hibernate mode. It died.
10 months old and the motherboard is fried!!??
My "third arm/life-blood" is cut off, and they're going to send it away to be fixed. Of course, there's a section on the hard drive of my laptop just for back ups and the tech tells me they want 80$ to make my back ups...ummm, I don't think so pal! I went to my trusty computer parts store and got me a USB 2.0 to IDE/SATA cable for 30$, yanked the hard drive and copied everything I could get at on to my little 40Gig laptop. And I now own the cable to do this anytime I want, so I say
to the 80$ fee! It's a freaking brand new laptop, why should I have to pay anything???
And to top it all off, while I'm telling the supposed "tech" what happened, he's trying to open my laptop and he twists the web cam totally outwards, which can trash the display if it breaks!!
I've never even used the bloody web cam, and there's a big sticker on the inside that says not to turn it past a certain angle. It doesn't exactly inspire my confidence in their tech capabilities if he can't even open a laptop that they sell at that store. GAH..
So I'm going back to drop it off today, and I'm almost afraid to leave it with them. My life is on there.
Yes I have back ups of my important stuff, but I couldn't get at my emails, and it's all set up the way I want it. What if they lose everything??? I know this can happen to anyone, but I'm really peeved that it happened to a laptop that's not even a year old. WTF, you know?
So that was my Saturday from hell. I'm all sad and angry at the same time. I had plans, stuff to get done this weekend, reviews to write, blogs to post, interview questions to be sent off, and the move to my new host was going to finally be done!!! FOOK.

Just wait, it gets even better! I go back today after having spent half the night removing the hard drive, hooking it up, doing back-ups and trying to get at my emails, and they fookin tell me that I have to call 1-800 yadda yadda to get the manufacturer to send me a box to ship it directly to them to be fixed. Ummm yeah, so in other words, I'll be waiting at least a week or two just to get the damn box, then another who knows how the hell long for it to get there, and so on... I'm thinking it's going to be two months before I see my laptop again.
I am sooo not impressed. I'm going to raise some hell with them. I did not drop 700$ on a new laptop so I could go through this 10 months later!! If I wanted to deal with this, I would've bought an old used one for way cheaper. They better do something to make up for this inconvenience, frustration, and time lost on my computer. Fookers!
And I talked to the manager at the store I bought it at about that tech guy yesterday. He's definitely going to get a talking to, lol. Oh yes, Judi has her EVIL hat on now, look out!
Microsoft works. USUALLY new laptops dont fry....but then again, most of these companies that give us vista pay so damn much for it that they have to put in shyte parts. Also...did you know the nvidia drivers are NOT compatible....like...at all with Windows Vista? I didn't know either until my mom got a Vista machine.
Girlie....go to Mac =P

I'm hoping that they will replace the substandard hardware with better stuff because obviously whatever they had in there was bunk. They should be embarrassed that it died in 10 months, and install better hardware to make up for it! I'll be asking if it was the same parts installed.
Funny thing is that my sister bought the exact same laptop about a month before me, only with 40 more gigs on the hard drive, and theirs doesn't run as hot as mine did. And mine is always on a chillmat. It's just my luck that I got a lemon. Booooo. :P
I could tell you what the return percentage is for each company and it wouldn't inspire ANY confidence. Trust me. I'm a firm believer that if you want a computer, put it together yourself. There's enough shops around here that sell the cases and the moniter/hkeyboard/mouse and you pick your parts. I've rarely seen one of these machines faulter.
Good luck with that laptop though :(
I hear you on the putting a computer together yourself and I agree, but I'm partial to laptops now. I've had replacement parts for my desktop for months, and just don't have the time to get it in there and up and running. I would love nothing more than to block off two days to just get it done, but unfortunately the constant interruptions of "life" and previous obligations seem to get in the way of that happening.
Oh, and I still think Mac's are too expensive! LOL
